Linux Personal Financial Software

In Personal Finance - 16 months ago

There are two eminent windows based software for personal finance management known as intuit quicken and Microsoft money. Similarly Linux offers free software for personal finance management being superior to any other proprietary programs. They will be the best alternatives.

Money Dance:
Money dance is the proprietary program of Reilly Technologies. There are lots of restrictions in using money dance. You are not authorized to use money dance in more than one computer.  You have no right to modify the software or sell it to any one. Money dance can never be used for any commercial purposes.

You need Java runtime environment as this software has been written in Java. With the help of this software you can import QIF filed quickly. Your updated account information can be retrieved directly from your Bank websites supported by OFX protocol. In this software you are able to save all files in an XML based format being compact. Wide range of financial reports is possible to be generated and also it can be exported. The interface could be navigated easily. There is no need to go through any user manuals or help files to understand how to use this program. This has to be started from the command line or navigated to the program by means of your graphical file manager.

JG Nash:

This software has also been written in Java like money dance. But the main difference is that you can not find cool installer with this software. User friendly Java Jar command from a terminal is used to run this software. JG Nash works with a JRE version 1.4.0 or newer. We are able to import Gnu cash data in addition to QIF Files. It is possible to export some reports to PDF, HTML and CSV. But you can not export TXF support with the help of this software.

K My Money:
This is the free software program being similar to Intuit Quicken. The main difference is it is not possible to communicate directly with the Banks and Financial institutions. You can import Quicken, QIF and Gnu cash data into the K My money format. But only QIF can be exported.

GNU Cash:
This is also free software program. We are able to import Quicken QIF files like other programs. You can also export TXF files. The recent GNU CASH 1.8.12 has the ability to import online banking data in the OXF format.

Cross over Office:
Cross over office is the wine based Windows API emulator and graphical program installation frame work. Four Quicken versions except Quicken premiere 2005 are supported in this cross over office software. The version 4.2 of Cross over office and Quicken 2003 can work together well. Cross over office would be the perfect choice for those who just can’t have Quicken behind.

GNU/Linux gives supports many financial planning and tracking tools. As all of the other programs have the functionality of Quicken, there can be no harm in trying each of them out.
