Good Credit Cards - Considerations When Looking

In Credit Cards - 16 months ago

There are a number of considerations when looking for good credit cards that need to be examined prior to just heading to an online credit card website and applying for one of them. This is because what may look like a “good” credit card when applying can end up being a less-than-good card once it's in one's hands and generating interest and other fees.

Of course, what one person considers good credit cards another person may consider inadequate credit cards. The number one criteria when considering what is “good” and what is not is the interest rate, which is exceedingly important for those who intend on carrying a balance from month-to-month on the card. For those who intend to pay the balance off every month, the interest rate may not be as important, though it should be.

This is because a credit card with an interest rate of, for example, 19% versus a credit card with an interest rate of 22% will be several dollars cheaper per month on a balance of $1500, to use just one way of looking at the card. Multiply those several dollars per month over a full 12 months and some serious money will soon ensue. Besides, that money can be put to better use elsewhere or invested.

A famous millionaire once observed that if you take care of the pennies, the dollars will take care of themselves and he certainly knew what he was talking about, especially when it comes to credit cards. Good credit cards never try to nickel and dime anyone through the imposition of hidden fees or service charges. Credit cards that come with lower interest rates and reasonable fees should always be considered as good, by the way.

Nowadays, with the pervasiveness of the Internet, it makes almost no sense to just go buy what is being shown on commercial and then applying for the card being advertised. Go online, find a credit card review website and then go over all that the card offers and take a few moments to read what other holders are saying about the card. One thing to keep in mind above all else is that if a card is guaranteeing automatic acceptance, it may be a card that will be more expensive in the long run.

This is because those kinds of cards have to cover the costs of delinquent cards and guess who will be paying those costs? Certainly not the credit card companies themselves. Therefore, find good credit cards that come with decent credit application criteria (assuming that the person applying has decent credit) and a reasonable interest rate and it'll be a fair bet that the card will actually be better than cards that guarantee acceptance but feature higher interest rates to do so.

People should always take the time to consider carefully what their credit means to them and how they are going to treat it when applying for even more credit. Good credit cards understand this and work with people to offer decent interest rates and a number of good rewards and benefits. So take a few minutes to search online for those kinds of cards before just applying for any old card out there.
