Best Cash Back Credit Card Programs

In Credit Cards - Types of Cards - 15 months ago

These days, when the economy is still on slightly-shaky legs and the need to maximize or leverage available debt so great, understanding the best cash back credit card programs can be very important. This is especially so when the credit that is available needs to work in more ways than just as a vehicle for buying some good or service. The best programs around can actually return significant income, if used correctly.

The first thing to do when it comes to something like figuring out the best cash back credit card programs is to make full use of the information available on the Internet. One can go online, find a good search engine and then enter in a phrase related to credit cards that offer cash back on purchases and then begin researching which programs may offer the most in terms of rewards and income.

Never forget, though, that any credit card issuer will be looking to make a profit from a credit card account. If it's offering money back on purchases it's with the expectation that it will be making far more off of charge activities – from the merchants who accept the cards, for one – and interest rates then it will be putting out in terms of cash given back to a consumer.

Once that's been understood, selecting the best cash back credit card is more a matter of the specific requirements one will have four to credit being contemplated. Another term for this kind of credit card is “reward card,” said don't be confused if a card issuer uses the terms interchangeably. As was said, card issuers tend to charge more in terms of interest rate on one of these cards, and even those that are rated as having the lowest such rates generally will be about 1% above the rate offered by most standard credit cards.

That's why a financial calculation should be made if deciding to go with reward cards or a cash back credit card prior to application or accepting an offer from an issuer. Over the long run, will the additional interest paid be less than the reward returned? And will be specific requirements that an issuer stipulates the more onerous or restrictive than a standard credit card debt isn't reward-based?

These are important considerations to examine when it comes to one of these cards, as will be late-payment features that many cash back cards have that standard credit cards don't. Some of these cards have compressed the grace period (the time between the due date and when a payment can be made without penalty if it's submitted late) down to under three weeks. Additionally, the late payment fee can be more than a late payment due on a standard credit card as well.

None of this should be taken to mean that these credit cards aren't valuable, because they are. They can be a way to actually make credit card debt pay off in terms of income generated from that debt. Whether the monetary or other type of reward is sufficient or not is a personal decision that needs to be made on the part of the person contemplating applying for one of these reward cards, though.
