Do you think it’s impossible to get rid of debt? Let me tell you it is. Almost all of us are ensnared by some form of debt, the most common of them being credit card debt, and to get out of it really requires a proper debt management. Moneylenders are tapering up on the borrowers & people are being thrown out of their jobs and are struggling to meet their debt commitments. Moreover, the public is being preyed upon by debt management firms, whose promises are to make things better, but usually they are making things worse by loading up with bills and interests.
The following are a few tips to do debt management:
1. Access the problem: Before you actually get out of your debt, you will have to find out how terrible the situation is. Many people try to hide their debt problems from themselves and their dear ones. Many people even refuse to see the actual problem and simply carry on adding more and more debt. Some others would try to ignore the problems by just avoiding the letters from creditors and rejecting their phone calls. But, this is not the solution, it’s just like a kid closing his eyes and thinking no-one can notice him any more.
2. My advice for all those who are interested to learn debt management is to never overlook a letter or phone call from creditors; they have the authority to go to the court to get their money by taking hold of your possessions and/or your home and will fight a lawsuit that they made enough effort to come to a reasonable agreement with you, but you said no to a deal with them.
3. Gather all the financial statements & the letters you got from your creditors, get yourself a cup of tea or coffee or a drink, and sit down with a paper and pen. What you need to do next is to make a list of precisely how much you owe, to whom you owe, the rate of interest being charged on the credit, and the minimum payments being stipulated.
4. Once you have gathered this information in hand, all you need to do is examine your earnings and expenditure. You can get a checklist of the things you need to include at the time of calculating your expenditure, from the charity Consumer Credit Counseling Service. And my advice to all who want to do debt management would be to make use of this service; the major reason people go into debt is they either "forget" or are ignorant of some items of expenditure until it strikes them in their head, at this point they simply get their credit card out to deal with it. If you really want to get out of debt, you need to be fully conscious of exactly where you are spending your money.
I am sure that at the end of this article you will know exactly where your money is coming from, exactly where are you spending it, and exactly how much debt you owe.
