How do I go about stopping payment through my credit card on an item that was defective?

This is one of the best protections that credit cards offer. This protection can only be used if the defective item cost more than $50 and the purchase generally has to have been made within 100 miles of your billing address. You also have to make a genuine effort to resolve the problem with the credit card company before you stop payment.
